Number One On My List

April 30th, 2010

I have a new favorite cigar to add to my list. Tatiana cigars are now the Top Cigars on my list. They are so smooth and pleasant to smoke, I switched to them from a cigar that I smoked for many years.  Last month I was able to attend a cigar store that was featuring them on a special, so since the price was right, I got one to try.  The burn was so smooth and the draw was perfect.  I would recommend these to any smoker that I know. The thing that surprised me the most is that they are flavored. I tried a few different flavors from them, but I really liked the Mocha flavored. I am a huge coffee fan, so mixing it with my tobacco is totally delicious. There were other flavors that I tried and liked, like the rum and vanilla. I have had rum flavored cigars before, and they were not as good as these. But after I tried the mocha, I have to say that they are the best flavored cigars that I have ever had. Another thing that I really like about these cigars are the quantities they come in.  I can buy a tin if I am not planning on smoking to many or a box if I am going on a trip and need to take some for a few weeks. Plus the best thing about these cigars is that they are rather inexpensive. Compared to the premium natural cigars that I was smoking, this is really going to help my budget overall. Not that it is too big a deal, but spending less always helps, and that way I can save money for other things that I really want. For now these are the Top Cigars on my list, and I cannot imagine finding a more tasty cigar at that price to knock this one out of the running.

Try White Owl Cigars

April 6th, 2010

White Owl Cigars have been about for many many years and I have smoked them for so long as I can remember. I came across an article from July 1932 about the General Cigar company, which manufacturer’s White Owls. At the time, these machine made cigars were being sold at 7 cents. And that price was a bit to high for cigar smokers of that day. The median price of a machine made was about 5 cents. Many folks went to General to make them lower their price down to five cents. Not only did they need the price reduced, but they didn’t need the stogie to be modified at all . They wanted the same size and quality filler at a lower cost. White Owl cigars are made with the most expensive filler that the US grows and is a top quality cigar that some aficionado’s didn’t mind paying some extra cents. Many executives of the company weren’t prepared to modify the price, they would be making the lowest profit from the change and other companies using scraps and damaged ends of tobacco would still be making a significant profit margin, for less superior cigars. In the end, the decision was made to low the costs, but keeping the practice of great long filler and over sized cigars. Once the reduction was put into effect, the company broke records for rapid increase in consumption. They managed to do this with organized production and vast output. I wish they still only cost five cents per cigar, that would save me a lot of cash, I believe that I would be alright with paying the 7 cents too.

How to keep your Smoke in Preferred Condition

March 17th, 2010

For people who smoke premium cigars, it can become something of an obsession. As the Days go buy, cigar smokers frequently develop definite rituals that they stick to every time they smoke a stogie, and can be quite obsessive about how they store their cigars.  If you’re not apprised of this obsession of smoking the  ‘perfect’ cigar, then you also possibly do not understand the need for a cigar humidor.  The basic point of a cigar humidor is to both store and protect cigars.  Many cigar fans believe that cigars have to be stored at a particular temperature so as to keep their top flavor.  That’s’s exactly what the cigar humidor does – maintains a constant temperature.  You don’t have to store machine made cigars like your Black and Milds in a humidor. Viewpoints vary, but it’s’s sometimes thought that the range between 68 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal for cigars.  The humidity also has to be controlled, and kept at a level around 70-72% humidity.  Cigar backers have long debated about the perfect temperature required for the storing of cigars.  Some demand that even a slight fluctuation in temperature can prove damaging to the flavor of their cigars, and insist on a temperature of seventy degrees Fahrenheit.  Others are a bit more flexible and permit a slight amount of temperature fluctuation.  Typically they all agree that the lower the temperature, the faster the cigar will age, which may then bring about a decrease in flavor.  If you’d like to maintain the flavor, integrity and color of your favorite smokes, then a cigar humidor is critical.  What features should you be on the lookout for purchasing a cigar humidor?  The one necessary feature is that it has to be absolutely closed once the lid is shut.  If the lid isn’t snug and secure, then it’s possible that the temperature or humidity within will change.  A lid that’s’s tight also inhibits any other outside elements contaminating the cigars, and inhibits any moisture exchange.  It’s useful if the interior of the cigar humidor is smooth and continuing, to prevent snagging of cigars ( or fingers ).  It is also helpful to have fittings within the humidor to help in the storing of the smokes.

Cigarro Spanish for Cigar

February 22nd, 2010

The people of the West Indies were smoking maimi suites cigars when Christopher Columbus came to America. Sir Walter Raleigh might have started the tobacco industry in the colonies, but in 1613, it was John Rolfe who began shipping tobacco back to Europe. Rolfe also married Pocohontas. Even before the time of Raleigh, smoking tobacco, in one form or another had been used for sacred ceremonies, relaxation and for celebrations. Cigars didn’t always come in sweet smelling cedar boxes. In the old days, cigars were packed in pig’s bladders, to keep them moist. Statistics show that in 1973, (a prior height of cigar consumption) US people smoked 11.2 bill cigars: 54 cigars for every person in America.

Just Days until the Cigarette Prohibition

December 29th, 2009

Well, St. Louis has adopted a smoking ban for all restaurants and bars, with only a few allowances. I’m so done with my human rights being eliminated, I’m tired. I can’t fathom the reason non-smokers have such a assertive judgement on what we smokers want to do. I understand that smoking is bad, but I made a conscience selection when I began smoking, alert to the fact it was bad. Just because non-smokers want me to quit, does not mean that it’s going to happen. Smoking in pubs has been a freedom, but most restaurants have a approved smoking area. If non-smokers prefer not to to smell the smoke, don’t sit down in the smoking area, you are not coerced to sit in smoking. And as well as the employees of these restaurants that argue they are affected by second hand smoke, what a joke. I held jobs in the service industry for over 10 years, and I know that most of theco-workers were smokers.  Doing business with people, if anything, initiates you to inhale.  And, I have never overheard any non-smoking co-worker ever protest about second hand smoke while working in the smoking area. Putting a smoking ban in restaurants and bars, can only save me money, considering I will not dine out after the first of the year.

Tobacco: Information for the novice cigar smoker

November 18th, 2009

The most basic method of categorizing cigars is by the method in which they are made. Cigars are either rolled by hand, or manufactured by machines. The novice smoker may be tempted to start by trying those machine made brands sold in Drug Stores, such as Dutch Masters. However, the Beginner should consider spending a few more pennies and moving up to hand rolled cigars, which are sold online or at a local smokeshop.

Daily Smokers Vs Connoisseurs
MostIndividual cigar smokers have their own unique tastes, and have their own individual financial constraints. Those who enjoy smoking several cigars per day may need an “everyday” cigar that is inexpensive. Therefore, the taste and cost of machine made cigars can be very attractive to some smokers. However, to the new smoker or experienced connoisseurs, the ones who enjoy an occasional cigar as a special treat, the hand rolled cigar is worth every dime.
